TAKU TAGAMI
Born in Gifu, Japan and now based in Tokyo, Taku Tagami explores form where the natural and the man-made converge.
After working in architectural design, he felt a growing desire to create with his own hands, centering his work on material, structure, and touch, and exploring primal relationships between form and space. Using sculpture, spatial installation, and object-based practice, he investigates how balance and presence emerge through physical intuition.
Artist Statement
At times, I wish I could forget the culture and civilization we inhabit and see the world in its purest form. Our understanding is shaped by layers of language, history, customs, and science. While these layers have enriched us, I feel they may have also dulled our ability to imagine—much like how an ancient person might have found deep meaning in a simple, round stone by the sea. I believe that rediscovering this sense of freedom and playfulness could unlock new ways of living and reawaken the primal joy of creation.
